Working at Heights - Basic

Learn the basics of personal fall prevention whilst using a safety harness.

Description

This course is perfect for employed in health and safety roles and need to understand the legislative requirements and technical aspects of fall protection beyond working at heights foundations.

The course will focus on prevention of falls from height (ie. restraint techniques), as opposed to fall arrest (which is covered in Working at Heights - Intermediate and Working at Heights - Advanced).

It covers:

  • Familiarization with the law, legislation and responsibilities relating to working at heights in NZ.

  • Develop a deeper understanding of risk management relating to working at heights.

  • Understand the basics of harnesses and lanyards, including conducting routine equipment checks.

  • Develop the skills for emergency planning and basic heights rescue.

  • Learn about the different types of fall protection and fall-arrest devices.

  • Use a safety harness whilst working at height.

If you work in an environment where you work across a variety of sites where fixed access and pre-installed fall-arrest systems are not available, we recommend Working at Heights - Intermediate or Working at Heights - Advanced so you become proficient with installation, use and disestablishment of temporary proprietary fall-arrest systems.

Confidence and competence in employing equipment at height.

We'll need two tables, enough chairs for the participants and space for the projector to display. We're happy to use your AV set up if you have one.

For the heights practical components, we need access to a structure which complies with all relevant standards, that allows students to demonstrate safely working at heights at a minimum of 2m. At any time, there needs to be space for two students to work safely at height.

If you are unsure if your site meets these requirements, please don't hesitate to get in touch with our team.
