Working at Heights - Advanced

Develop confidence and competence in the practical and theoretical applications of working at heights legislation, systems and techniques.

Description

This course is ideal for those trade and industry workers, project and team leader who are required to have a in-depth understanding of the safe systems for working at height, and have the confidence to navigate a variety of challenges that present whilst working in a kinetic environment. 

 

It covers:

  • Familiarization with the law, legislation and responsibilities relating to working at heights in NZ.

  • Learn the basics of risk management relating to working at heights. 

  • Develop decision making skills to choose and employ the most appropriate heights safety system for the task. 

  • Understand the employment of harnesses, lanyards and work positioning systems, including conducting routine equipment checks.

  • Develop the skills for emergency planning and rescue. 

  • Learn about the different types of fall protection and fall-arrest devices. 

  • Use a safety harness whilst working at height. 

  • Install and disestablish temporary proprietary fall-arrest systems, both horizontal and vertical.

  • Conduct a rescue at height.

This course contains written assessments. All students are required to have a level of written and oral English equivalent to NCEA level 1 (year 11) or IELTS 5.5 or higher, to be eligible to attend our courses.  It is the responsibility of the hiring party to ensure all students meet this criteria.

Physical Requirements

Working at heights courses are, by nature, high-risk. 

Students are required to have the physical strength, dexterity, balance, co-ordination and motor skills required to safely demonstrate competence in the unit standards. 

Due to the load limits specified by the manufacturers instructions on our equipment, students must be under 150kg in order to participate in these courses.

There are many practical components to this course.  If you have injuries or medical conditions that may affect your ability to participate, please contact us to discuss your options.  It is the responsibility of the hiring party to ensure all students meet this criteria.
